VERSION 2.0 ~ September 08, 2013
WELCOME... This is an ONLINE visual "MUSEUM" of some of the things that my family, friends & I have collected over the years. It represents a LARGE portion of my personal hobbies & interests. The "FLATWOODS MUSEUM" originally started as a long standing joke with my friends from my high school days. I have ALWAYS LOVED visited museums, exhibits & the like. SO...fast forward 15 years or so...and I thought why not actually have an online display of some of the things I have collected. And what better title for my site than "THE FLATWOODS MUSEUM ONLINE" , I have always considered myself a curator of sorts. I mean, I fit the standard defination of what a "curator" is and does...so if the show fits....why not wear it as well. Now the site is coming on 7 years of existance, I am finding myself branching out to include alot more than just "stuff" that I collected. EXAMPLE...I am working on a photo exhibit of my town, I worked on compiling (& completed) a list of the bands & artists that have played the Ashland, KY SUMMER MOTION festival over the last 25 years, etc. I also have a section dedicated to various stores, places & foods that are either NO longer around or are extremely HARD to find. In 2007...my main focus was to display my militaria collection here. An interesting bit of trivia...back then there weren't probably 3 or 4 folks in the United States with their collections online. Now it's a much more common practice, so I like to think that I helped pioneer the idea. So PLEASE FEEL FREE to browse the various collections. Hopefully there is something for everyone on here, and you just might learn something in the process...

PLEASE NOTE: "THE FLATWOODS MUSEUM ONLINE" IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE CITY OF FLATWOODS, KENTUCKY, other than the fact that we live there. As of February 2018 there is NO official FLATWOODS town museum.

MY THOUGHTS ON MUSEUMS: AS YOU CAN SEE...the majority of my time has been spent working on my MILITARIA COLLECTION & PAGES. There are fortunately NOW more people in the UNITED STATES that are putting their collections in an online format such as mine. When I first started there were ONLY 3 OR 4 others. There are many more located outside of the UNITED STATES in such places as NEW ZEALAND, SPAIN, AUSTRALIA, SOUTH AFRICA, DENMARK, NETHERLANDS, JAPAN, etc. so while my hobby is not unheard of...having it ONLINE IS still somewhat RARE. To me, having the uniforms, helmets, caps, boots, etc. is a way of preserving the past & present for future generations to enjoy. I think back to my own childhood...and so many of the things that I used to play with, restaurants I ate at, stores I shopped at, television programs I watched, etc...are gone...many forever. It is a shame that they have "vanished"...similar to endangered species...therefore...by collecting militaria from former countries such as EAST GERMANY(DDR) & the old SOVIET UNION...I am preserving those things for future generations to be able to examine. So when you are out & about and come across a little museum somewhere...STOP IN...LOOK AROUND....many of the things you will see are from days gone by...BUT by visiting them....you are keeping the past ALIVE & WELL!!! AFTER ALL...it IS the past that we ALL learn from!!! UNTIL NEXT TIME.....bondo
IMPORTANT NOTE: I have completed work on recreating ALL of the pages from my old YAHOO website HERE. This was a VERY time consuming project & I appreciate everyone's patience. I had to recreate each & every page BY HAND. I didn't have any way to sync the sites or transfer them here as it is was a different company. I had to redo my site THANKS to YAHOO's decision to NOT continue updating their "older" webbuilding tools/programs to be compaitble with the newest & constantly updating programs such as Java & Internet Explorer among others. In fact, I had to use another older computer to even open my old Yahoo website to work on it or save it due to the software compatibilty issues. I also had alot of problems with the same issues over the years....so here I am....
PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINKS/BANNERS TO GO TO THE VARIOUS COLLECTIONS/PAGES!!!
NOTE: I have found that working on such a large project to be a VERY TIME CONSUMING task, due to family situations, internet problems (seemingly every week) & situations beyond my control. Working on The Flatwoods Museum Online's various collections, pages, projects & features IS progressing...sometimes at a snail's pace it seems. There are SO many ideas that I have & unfortunately I cannot get to them all....I am revisiting some of the collections that have not been worked on in a while, in fact some have not been touched since 2007 when the site was created. I am actively working on the Music & Concert Memorabilia. I have finished with the Movie Memorabilia Collection, the Militaria Collection is in the middle of being overhauled. I have began a section entitled "Vanishing Treasures" and am adding to that project regularily.
I WILL WORK ON SOME NEW COLLECTIONS & PROJECTS AT SOME FUTURE DATE TBD.
SO HERE is what projects you CAN EXPECT TO SEE worked on and/or finished this fall/winter:
Music & Concert Memorabilia , "Flatwoods City Limits" , "Vanishing Treasures" & SUMMER MOTION artists
Hopefully, I will get to start work on the Autograph Collection as well, but we will have to wait to see on that. The "other" collections take priority over ALL new projects that are in the developemental stages.
